Baltimore & Delta 2-8-0 "Consolidation" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Thomas C Jenkins (Locobase 11798)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines, 1888, as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 11, p. 33. Works numbers were 6134 and 6140 in April 1882.

These two Consolidations were diverted from the large order that were delivered to the Denver & Rio Grande (see Locobase 11797).

Both the 3 and 4 (named George S Brown) had remained on the physical rails north of Baltimore throughout all of the corporate name changes. Alas, the 4 was wrecked at Vale in February 1899. In 1901, the Banner Lumber Company in Louisiana purchased the 3 to operate it on the Kentwood & Eastern. The K&E ran the engine for almost 20 years before letting it go to locomotive rebuilder/reseller Southern Iron & Equipment, which sold it to J H Burnham as their 20 but quickly repossessed it, put it on a side track, and apparently forgot about it for 40 years.
