Yazoo & Mississippi Valley 2-6-0 "Mogul" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 101 (Locobase 16278)

Data from the IC 1930 Locomotive Diagram book supplied in May 2005 by Allen Stanley from his extensive Rail Data Exchange. Works numbers were 2820-2822 in September 1899 and 2823-2824 in December.

The Illinois Central ordered the last five of its long-running series of Moguls (Locobase and 9387)as their 517-519, but apparently decided enough was enough and quickly sold the first three to the Y&MV in December 1897, replacing them with three Rogers-built locomotives (Locobase 9387). In fact, it's possible that the trio never actually traveled from Paterson to Paducah, but headed straight for their new owners.

The last two in the class went directly to the Y&MV and were a rare breed of new-built engines on that line. 105 served for ten years before being leased to Brookhaven Gravel Company. The other four were scrapped in 1926-1929.
