St Lawrence & Adirondack 4-4-0 "American" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Beauharnois (Locobase 11115)

Data from Schenectady Locomotive Works, Illustrated Catalogue of Simple and Compound Locomotives (Philadelphia: J B Lippincott, 1897), pp. 36-37. See also [], last accessed 22 January 2010. Works number was 4437 in February 1896.

Note the small grate compared to the rest of the areas in this locomotive, which operated on the StL&A for less than a year before being sold to the Canada Atlantic as their 24. When the CAR was amalgamated with the Grand Trunk, this engine was placed in its own class H-6 and renumbered three times. Finally, the CNR took over the GTR's motive power, classified the by-now 2240 as B-17 and numbered it 311, and scrapped it in 1925.
