Spring Canyon Coal Company 2-8-0 "Consolidation" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 1 (Locobase 14077)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 45, p. 212. Works number was 38837 in November 1912.

Jesse Knight found the town of Storrs in Utah in 1912 to serve as a base for his coal-mining operations. The Knight Investment Company ordered this Consolidation on 10 August 1912. It's not clear if the engine ever actually operated on the Spring Canyon's rails.

By sometime in 1913, the 1 had been sold to the Denver & Rio Grande Western as the 958 in their class 172. In 1912, the 958 was renumbered 915 and in 1924, it was placed in class C-39 (which represented its tractive effort in thousands of pounds). A single engine, 915 ran until 1937, when it was scrapped in January of that year.
