Located on the bend of the Feather River known as the Mohawk Valley, Graeagle was the home of the Blue Anchor Brand. The CFE was formed in 1901 by a group of Sacramento and San Joaquin Valley orchard growers and packing houses for fruits and nuts. Its lumber department harvested the ponderosa pine and sugar pine sawn into box shook to make the millions of crates used to ship fruit. The 1 was a typical small logging Prairie tank, albeit one fitted with a good amount of superheater area and 8" (203 mm) piston valves. In April 1938, the CFE sold the 1 to the California Western as their #14. After its retirement in May 1952, it languished on a side track until Ben Rudolph bought the engine in 1956. The 14 was stored on the Rudolph estate.
