The HSC consisted of seven sugar companies: Hamakua Mill Company, Honoka`a Sugar, Kaiwiki Sugar, Kukaiau Plantation Co., Laupahoehoe Sugar, Pa`auhau Sugar Plantation and Pacific Sugar Mill.
This radial tank had an "arsenical copper" firebox.
Hawaiian sugar plantations used a lot of Baldwin rear truck tank engines and the Kokee fit right in. It was an oil burner with especially small drivers, which cut speed but increased tractive effort.
This engine was later sold for $4,000 to Grove Farm on Kauai in 1941 and renamed Kaipu after the owner's "right-hand man". It was retired in 1953, stored under cover, and was restored for operation in 1982.
This saddle-tanker was another in a series of sugar-plantation locomotives that shared the same power, boiler, and firebox dimensions. The only real differences among the group (mostly exported to Hawaiian islands) were gauge and weight. The Mokuaweoweo weighed a bit more than the others.
Honolulu Sugar operated the engine until 1938, when it was sold to the Honokaa Sugar Co.
